Signs Your CWS Impact Garage Door Is Failing

• The door drops hard or won’t stay open. Torsion springs on CWS impact doors are wound to a higher initial torque to counterbalance the heavier wind-load construction. When a spring fatigues, usually after 8,000-12,000 cycles in Boca Raton’s salt air, the door feels heavier and the opener labors. We measure spring gap to confirm; anything over 1/4 inch between coils at rest means replacement.
• Opener reverses before the door reaches the floor. The safety sensors are working, but the door is binding in the track. On CWS units, this often traces to a bent bottom fixture or debris in the low-headroom track bracket, common after tropical storm debris blows through the gap.
• Visible daylight under the bottom seal after rain. The rubber bulb seal on CWS impact doors compresses over time, and the aluminum retainer corrodes at the ends where salt collects. We replace the retainer and seal together; fitting a new seal into a pitted retainer buys you six months at best.
• Loud popping or snapping during operation. This is usually a failing torsion spring or, less often, a cracked hinge at the #3 position on a 16-foot door. CWS hinges are 14-gauge steel, but the impact-rated door weight concentrates stress at the center panel joint. We inspect all hinges during any spring call because the second failure follows the first.
• The door panel bows inward between tracks. On CWS 900 Series doors with flat pan construction, this indicates a broken interior strut or, in worse cases, delamination of the impact-rated skin from the frame. This is structural; operating the door risks panel collapse.
