PGT Sliding & Patio Doors: The Boca Raton Owner’s Guide

We stock and install PGT-compatible sliding and patio door systems in Boca Raton, with typical installed replacement costs running $2,800-$5,400 depending on size, impact rating, and glass package. Most PGT units in our warehouse or available through our distributor network can be on-site within 24-48 hours. Homeowners usually discover a problem when the door sticks in the track during humid mornings, the lock no longer engages flush, or they notice daylight between the panel and the frame that wasn’t there last season.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds sliding and patio doors across several series, and the part you need depends on which line is installed. The PGT WinGuard impact-rated vinyl and aluminum lines carry a permanent etched mark in the glass corner or on the frame edge with the series name, NFPA certification number, and manufacture date. The PGT EnergyVue non-impact vinyl line uses a different roller assembly, handle set, and interlock profile than WinGuard, though the frames look similar from the interior. PGT PremierVue aluminum frames take yet another roller specification.

To identify your unit: open the active panel and look for the PGT label on the top rail or the glass etching in the lower corner. Note the series name, the nominal size (e.g., 72″ x 80″), and whether the glass is laminated impact-rated or standard insulated. If the label is sun-faded, which we see often on west-facing Boca Raton installations after eight to ten years, measure the visible glass width and height, the frame depth, and the track width. We cross-reference those dimensions against PGT’s parts matrix.

Sightline Windows & Doors Boca Raton is an independent service provider, not affiliated with PGT. We source OEM PGT parts through authorized distribution and also stock quality aftermarket equivalents where the specification matches. For lock mechanisms and interlock weatherstrip, we prefer OEM; for rollers and bumper pads, we’ve had equal lifespan from verified aftermarket suppliers at lower cost. We document which we used and why on your work order.

Signs Your PGT Sliding or Patio Door Is Failing

Signs Your PGT Sliding or Patio Door Is Failing
  • The panel drags or requires shoulder force to move. This usually means the roller assembly has flat-spotted or the axle has corroded. In Boca Raton’s salt-air environment, we’ve found PGT rollers tend to seize after six to eight years on oceanfront properties, faster than the manufacturer rates them.
  • Water pools on the interior track after rain. The weep holes are clogged with debris, or the sill cap seal has separated from the frame. On first-floor PGT units in Boca Raton’s older neighborhoods like Camino Gardens, landscaping splashback accelerates this.
  • The lock thumbturn spins without engaging the deadbolt. The internal cam has sheared or the mortise lock body has slipped in the frame pocket. This is a security issue, not just an operation issue.
  • Visible gaps between the fixed and active panels when closed. The interlock weatherstrip has compressed past recovery, or the panel has dropped on worn rollers and no longer meets the jamb square.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. The insulating glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. In Florida’s UV exposure, we’ve logged IGU failures on south-facing PGT doors as early as year seven, though twelve to fifteen years is more typical inland.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component/Scope Typical Range in Boca Raton
Roller assembly replacement (pair) $280-$420
Mortise lock and handle set $340-$580
Interlock weatherstrip replacement $180-$290
IGU replacement (glass only, standard size) $640-$940
Full panel replacement (same frame) $1,800-$2,800
Complete PGT sliding door system, installed $2,800-$5,400

What drives the range: size (a 12-foot multi-slide vs. a standard 6-foot single), impact rating (laminated glass adds 30-40% to glass cost), and whether the frame is reusable. Our quote includes parts, labor, disposal, and the documented photo record. We pull permits when the job requires them, which full-frame replacements in Boca Raton typically do. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; OEM parts carry their own manufacturer warranty, which we register for you.

What you can safely check: clear weep holes with a pipe cleaner, vacuum the track of sand and organic debris, and confirm the lock strike plate hasn’t loosened. These are maintenance, not repair, and they solve more problems than owners expect.

Where DIY goes wrong: roller replacement on a PGT door requires supporting the panel weight while the bottom rail is accessed, and the panel on a standard 80-inch tall WinGuard unit runs 120-160 pounds. A dropped panel cracks tile, tears the screen, or injures hands. Mortise lock replacement involves precise mortise depth and backset; too shallow and the lock binds, too deep and the faceplate gaps. We don’t recommend either as a first project.

Measure it twice, write it down, then we can talk price.
